This role requires a proven record of designing steel structures and works closely with project managers, modelers, detailers, and engineers to ensure connection designs are compliant with relevant codes, standards, and constructability requirements. The Connection Design Engineer supports internal project teams by providing technical expertise, preparing connection calculations, and reviewing design documents to facilitate accurate and efficient detailing and modeling workflows. This position plays a key role in maintaining quality, accuracy, and alignment with project specifications throughout all phases of structural steel projects. Key Responsibilities * **Connection Design and Engineering Support** * Develop and verify steel connection designs in accordance with project requirements, specifications, and applicable codes. * Prepare and review connection calculations and design reports for a wide range of structural steel connections. * Interpret structural drawings, project specifications, and engineering instructions to determine appropriate connection solutions. * Coordinate with modelers and detailers to communicate connection design intent and resolve technical issues. * Review and provide feedback on shop drawings and connection details to ensure compliance with engineering principles and project standards. * Support project managers and engineers with technical analysis and problem\-solving related to connection design and constructability. * **Quality Assurance and Documentation** * Ensure all connection designs meet quality, safety, and constructability requirements as outlined by codes, standards, and client expectations. * Maintain accurate records of design calculations, engineering correspondence, and revisions. * Participate in internal reviews of connection calculations and related submittals to support project quality objectives. * **Collaboration and Process Improvement** * Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize connection design workflows and improve project delivery efficiency. * Support the integration of connection design processes with modeling and detailing operations using engineering software and digital tools. * Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering standards, templates, and best practices for connection design. **Qualifications** * Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field. * Minimum of 35 years of experience in structural steel connection design, preferably within the steel detailing or construction industry. * Proven record of designing steel structures with demonstrable project experience. * Proficiency with RISA, SCIA, IdeaStatica, and SDS2 or Tekla for connection analysis, design, and integration with detailing workflows. * Working knowledge of Specifications for Structural Steel Buildings ANSI/AISC 360\-22\. * Working knowledge of Structural Welding Code Steel AWS D1\.1:2020\. * Working knowledge of AWS welding practices and procedures, including shop and erection requirements. * Working knowledge of International Building Code as related to structural steel buildings. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner, and Bluebeam. * Excellent English writing and communication abilities. **Key Competencies** * Technical proficiency in structural steel connection design and analysis. * Strong problem\-solving and analytical skills. * High attention to detail and commitment to quality. * Effective collaboration skills within multidisciplinary project teams. * Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. * Strong organizational and documentation abilities. * Professional integrity and commitment to continuous improvement.
