Fully responsible for maintaining buildings, grounds, and mechanical equipment, with special emphasis on safety, security, and asset protection. Manages budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventive maintenance, and energy conservation. Develops and implements strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed guest and employee needs and expectations while maximizing financial performance. Ensures compliance with maintenance standards and regulatory requirements. Leads the emergency response team for all equipment-related issues. **Candidate Profile** **Education and Experience Requirements** * High school diploma or GED; six years of experience in engineering maintenance or a related field; training in HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, or plumbing technologies. Or * Two-year degree in construction, engineering, mechanical technology, or a related field from an accredited college/university; four years of experience in engineering maintenance or a related field; training in HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, or plumbing technologies. **Core Job Activities** **Manage Engineering Operations and Budget** * Collaborates with hotel and regional engineering leadership teams to assess budget execution within the Engineering Department and highlight areas requiring leadership attention. * Manages mechanical equipment—including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems—per standard operating procedures. * Executes service contracts to support hotel needs. * Ensures fire personnel have comprehensive knowledge of all procedures, equipment, and alarms. * Guides and supports the engineering leadership team in effectively managing controllable expenses (e.g., wages, thermal energy, lighting and power, water consumption, tools and equipment, grounds maintenance supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, inventory, etc.). * Manages and controls thermal energy, lighting, and power. * Develops engineering operations strategies aligned with hotel/brand business strategy. * Prepares and manages the engineering budget. * Ensures departmental goals are integrated into action plans. * Oversees implementation of long-term preventive maintenance and 10-year asset protection programs. * Reviews financial reports and statements to assess budget execution within the Engineering Department. * Proactively addresses potential areas of concern and proposes solutions to ownership. * Communicates clear, consistent messages regarding departmental goals to achieve desired outcomes. * Supervises construction to ensure timely project completion within budget guidelines. **Maintain Engineering Standards** * Ensures compliance with state, local, and federal regulations. * Maintains the hotel’s fire life safety systems (e.g., fire equipment, sprinkler systems, alarm systems). * Ensures building and equipment permits, certificates of approval, and certifications remain current and valid. * Ensures fair and consistent application of hotel policies. **Manage Profitability** * Keeps all aspects of operations within budget by reviewing operational reports, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports. * Supervises and manages payroll functions. * Manages departmental controllable expenses to meet or exceed budget targets. * Participates in setting departmental capital expenditure goals; manages projects as needed. * Participates in the budgeting process for assigned areas of responsibility. * Prepares weekly and period-end profit-and-loss assessments. * Understands how departmental operations impact overall hotel financial objectives; provides employees with appropriate detailed information. * Reviews and manages controllable expenses such as thermal energy, lighting, power, water consumption, tools and equipment, grounds maintenance supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, etc. **Conduct Human Resources Activities** * Ensures fair and equitable treatment of employees. * Ensures fair and consistent application of hotel policies; administers disciplinary procedures and documentation per Standards of Practice (SOP) and Local Standards of Practice (LSOP), and supports peer review processes. * Uses employee feedback and the “Open Door” policy to promptly identify and resolve employee concerns or issues. * Celebrates successes by publicly recognizing team members’ contributions. * Resolves guest issues and complaints. * Brings issues to the attention of Human Resources when necessary. * Ensures regular communication throughout engineering operations to convey day-to-day operational activities, set expectations, and raise awareness of business objectives. *Marriott International is committed to being an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all individuals, providing them with employment opportunities.
