Job Summary:
Metal structure assembly assistant, supporting activities including assembly, material preparation, rigging operations, finishing tasks, and tool setup.
Key Highlights:
1. Support in assembly and structural erection for large-scale projects.
2. Preparation, cutting, and material preparation of metallic components.
3. Experience operating electric and pneumatic tools.
**Main Responsibilities1\. Support in Structural Assembly and Erection**
* Assist the fitter in positioning, presenting, aligning, and leveling metal profiles, beams, and roof sheets.
* Present components, install preliminary connecting bolts, and apply basic torque or manual adjustment to structural connections.
* Provide basic welding tacking support when required and under supervision of the qualified fitter.
**2\. Material Preparation, Cutting, and Conditioning**
* Perform simple layout marking on profiles, plates, and sheets per the fitter’s instructions.
* Carry out mechanical cutting (using angle grinders) or basic oxy-fuel cutting, as well as beveling, edge cleaning, and burr removal.
* Drill plates and structures using fixed-base, magnetic, or portable drills.
**3\. Rigging and Load Handling**
* Assist in basic load rigging (sling, shackle, and strop placement) under supervision of the rigger or fitter.
* Guide heavy loads using tag lines (restraint ropes) during lifting with cranes or block-and-tackle systems.
**4\. Surface Preparation and Finishing**
* Perform mechanical preparation of weld joints using grinding wheels or abrasive discs.
* Apply touch-up anti-corrosive paint or coatings to connection and installation areas.
**5\. Tool and Worksite Setup**
* Prepare the worksite, install electrical extensions, welding equipment, and oxy-fuel hoses.
* Maintain order, cleanliness, and proper classification of fasteners, consumables, and tools at the erection site.
**Requirements and Competencies**
* **Education:** Technical high school diploma or certification/training course in Metalworking, Structural Ironworking, Welding, or Welded Construction (SENA or equivalent institutions).
* **Experience:** Minimum 1–2 years as an assistant on heavy metal structure erection projects, bridges, warehouses, or mega-projects.
* **Mandatory Certifications:**
* Valid certification for **Safe Work at Heights** (Advanced Level / Authorized Worker).
* **Technical Skills:**
* Proficient operation of electric and pneumatic tools (angle grinder, magnetic drill, cutoff saw).
* Basic operation of oxy-fuel cutting and electric welding equipment.
* Basic interpretation of assembly drawings or sketches.
