You’ll focus on maintaining and hardening the security of an existing production system built in CodeIgniter while our new Laravel \+ Next.js platform is being developed. This role is ideal for developers who are highly skilled at stabilizing and securing legacy platforms, and who want the chance to potentially transition into new platform development (Laravel backend, Next.js frontend, or full stack) as the project evolves. **Responsibilities** * Maintain and improve an older SaaS platform built in **CodeIgniter (PHP)**. * Audit, identify, and fix security vulnerabilities across the codebase and infrastructure. * Optimize and refactor backend logic for performance and maintainability. * Manage large **MySQL** databases (PostgreSQL experience is a plus). * Work with **Redis caching** and **Linux bare\-metal hosting** environments. * Ensure robust Git workflows using **GitLab** for version control and CI/CD. * Collaborate with the client’s CTO, PM, and tech team, as well as Helix’s backend and frontend developers building the new platform. * Provide structured daily updates: * **11 AM EST:** share a written recap of planned tasks in chat. * **5 PM EST:** participate in a daily call to review progress, blockers, and align on priorities. **Qualifications** * Strong, **production\-level experience with CodeIgniter** (PHP 7/8\). * Proven background in **application security** and hardening legacy systems. * Proficiency with **MySQL** (PostgreSQL a plus). * Experience with **Linux servers** and bare\-metal hosting environments. * Familiarity with **Redis caching** for performance optimization. * Solid grasp of Git workflows and GitLab pipelines. * Comfortable with Agile methodologies and distributed teams. * Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal). **Why Join Helix DevWorks?** * Direct impact on securing and stabilizing a live SaaS platform. * Work closely with both the client’s technical leadership and Helix’s development team. * Remote\-first culture with clear daily structure and timezone\-aware collaboration. * Possibility of **contract extension**. * Potential transition into the **new platform team** (Laravel, Next.js, or full\-stack).
