Fully responsible for maintaining buildings, premises, and mechanical equipment with a strong focus on safety, security, and asset protection. Responsible for managing budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventive maintenance, and energy conservation. Develop and implement strategies for products and services that meet or exceed guest and employee needs and expectations while maximizing financial performance. Ensure compliance with maintenance standards and regulatory requirements. Lead emergency response teams to address all equipment issues. **Candidate Profile** **Education and Experience Requirements** * High school diploma or equivalent (GED); 6 years of experience in engineering maintenance or related professional field; training in HVACR/electrical/plumbing technologies. Or * Two-year degree in construction, engineering, mechanics, or related field from an accredited college; 4 years of experience in engineering maintenance or related professional field; training in HVACR/electrical/plumbing technologies. **Core Work Activities** **Manage Engineering Operations and Budget** * Collaborate with hotel and regional engineering leadership teams to assess engineering department budget performance and highlight areas of concern to leadership. * Manage mechanical equipment including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems in accordance with standard operating procedures. * Execute service contracts to support hotel needs. * Ensure firefighters are fully trained on all procedures, equipment, and alarms. * Guide and support engineering leadership in effectively managing controllable expenses (e.g., payroll, heating, lighting and power, water usage, tools and equipment, grounds maintenance supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, inventory, etc.). * Manage and control heating, lighting, and power usage. * Develop engineering operational strategies aligned with hotel/brand business strategy. * Prepare and manage engineering budgets. * Ensure departmental goals are integrated into action plans. * Oversee execution of long-term preventive maintenance and 10-year asset protection programs. * Review financial reports and statements to assess engineering department budget performance. * Proactively identify potential areas of concern and present solutions to ownership. * Communicate clear and consistent messages regarding departmental goals to achieve desired outcomes. * Supervise construction to ensure timely project completion within budget guidelines. **Maintain Engineering Standards** * Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations. * Maintain the hotel’s fire and life safety systems (e.g., firefighting equipment, sprinkler systems, alarm systems). * Ensure building and equipment permits, approvals, and certifications are current and valid. * Ensure hotel policies are enforced fairly and consistently. **Manage Profitability** * Keep all aspects of operations within budget by reviewing operating reports, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports. * Supervise and manage payroll functions. * Manage departmental controllable expenses to meet or exceed budget targets. * Participate in setting departmental capital expenditure goals; manage projects as needed. * Participate in budget processes for areas of responsibility. * Prepare weekly and period-end profit and loss evaluations. * Understand how department operations impact overall hotel financial goals; provide employees with appropriate details. * Review and manage controllable expenses such as heating, lighting, power, water usage, tools and equipment, grounds maintenance supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, etc. **Conduct Human Resources Activities** * Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably. * Ensure hotel policies are enforced fairly and consistently, disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to standards and local operating procedures (SOPs and LSOPs), and support peer review processes. * Use employee feedback and the “open door” policy to promptly identify and resolve employee issues or concerns. * Celebrate successes by publicly recognizing team member contributions. * Address guest issues and complaints. * Escalate issues to Human Resources when necessary. * Ensure regular communication throughout engineering operations to convey daily activities, set expectations, and increase awareness of business objectives. *Marriott International is committed to being an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all job seekers.
